I can't import .ino

Another problem.
I have a file: ftp_client_girocorto.ino, which I can compile and run on a NodeMCU board, with Arduino IDE.

Now I try to import in Microchip Studio.
vMicro - Open Existing Arduino Project - and i select the file ftp_client_girocorto.ino

I get the two error, "Error reading variants path", as show in picture twoerrors.jpg

I click OK on both so I can proceed.

When I compile, vMicro - Build I get the same error, only one, and the output is in the text file attached.

thanks again for your patience.

I tried to do the same thing with Visual Studio, the error is similar:

"There was an error locating the variants for this board: "

I don't know what to do, Arduino IDE works without problems and the board appears to be installed.

The guide: https://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Open-existing-sketch.html isn't help for me.

May be some problems with directory names? Originally Windows 10 Home was installed in italian, then was upgrade to Pro, now I have changed to english but the original installation was in italian, I don't know if it matters.

Thanks for the report.

Have you installed any new board packages or updated them recently?

Would it be possible to attach the build output from the Arduino IDE with the Preferences > Verbose Output During Compilation option checked?

Recently I have installed the ESP8266 boards on Arduino IDE, Visual Micro has been installed after that.

You can see attached the output from Arduino IDE

Bye

Is this resolved for you already via another thread? If not here is some info ...

Arduino has a few ways to configure where board manager installs downloaded hardware defs.

The standard arduino ide and visual micro normally would use this folder "C:\Users\livio\AppData\Local\arduino15"

Your pc is configured to use a "secondary" location C:\Users\livio\Documents\ArduinoData.

The issue is that Visual Micro is finding both folders and treating the standard folder with priority.

Furture versions of Visual Micro will treat the \ArduinoData folder as a priority if both exist on your pc. We can see in your output that the standard Arduino IDE already does that.

try closing Visual Studio then renaming or removing this folder "C:\Users\livio\AppData\Local\arduino15" then restart VS. Does Visual Micro then automatically use the hardware installed in C:\Users\livio\Documents\ArduinoData and the build work OK?

Summary: The error is because the arduino15 folder is missing part of the esp32 toolchain. We see from the Arduino IDE that the \ArduinoData folder has the correct tools installed. (It doesn't matter which folders are used as long as the board manager has installed the tool chains correctly for "the" location)

Ok thank you.

As said in other thread I have disinstalled all and reinstalled all.

Now the target is start with simple Led Blink, triyng to debug it with Atmel-ICE.

As suggested here in the forum I will open new thread for every question.

Thanks again
